What can I send with STAR BOTTLE® in Deep Space

You can send a text, a photo, un video, or buy a mix of multiple combinations.

Your message will be translated into “Binary Code", the universal mathematical language adopted by NASA and SETI since 1984, for communications towards Deep Space.

Which destinations and dates can I choose?

Winter Solstice

The winter solstice, which occurs around 21 December in the northern hemisphere, is the shortest day of the year and marks the beginning of astronomical winter. During this event, the Earth's axis is tilted so that the North Pole is further away from the Sun, resulting in a shorter daylight duration. At the winter solstice, the Sun reaches its maximum angular distance below the celestial equator. This phenomenon is celebrated by many cultures with festivals and rituals symbolising the rebirth of the Sun and the gradual lengthening of the days.

Destinations you can choose

Sirius

Conoscenze raggiunte dagli astronomi solo in epoca moderna. Una curiosità ulteriore: il celebre album Eye in the Sky degli Alan Parsons Project inizia proprio con un brano strumentale dedicato alla stella Sirio.

Sagittarius A*

Sagittarius A*, the large, indeed immense, black hole 26,670 light years away from Earth, which became "popular" thanks to the 2022 photo from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). Sagittarius A* has a mass equal to 4.3 million "Suns" put together: a size that reaches 44 million km (the distance between our Sun and Mercury). Star Bottle's Sagittarius A* target represents an infinite journey through time for all of us. Our message will travel inexorably for the next few centuries the distance from Earth to the center of the Milky Way, where the black hole Sagittarius A* controls the life and time of the galaxy.

Europa/Jupiter

The Jovian moon Europa hosts, beneath its icy surface, an ocean of liquid water. Water is the basic element of life, at least as we know it. Therefore, being able to have a basin of liquid water on a celestial body in our Solar System unleashes fantasy and imagination on what life forms could develop in a similar environment that we also find on Earth, under the ice of Antarctica , where Lake Vostok presents conditions perhaps similar to those of the ocean of Europa. This is why the ESA (European Space Agency) Juice mission set off towards the Jupiter system last April: to closely explore its satellites, focusing on this topic and in particular on Europa, the satellite discovered in the distant nights of January 1610, by Galileo Galilei. Sending a message to Europa and its oceans therefore means retracing the evolutionary history of our planet, which started from the marine expanses. Life on this Moon may already be present.

Summer solstice

Destination milky way

The summer solstice, which occurs every year around June 21 in the Northern Hemisphere, is an astronomical event that marks the longest day and shortest night of the year. This phenomenon occurs when the Sun reaches its maximum declination north of the celestial equator, being directly above the Tropic of Cancer.

From a scientific point of view, the solstice is due to the inclination of the Earth's axis with respect to the Earth's orbital plane. This inclination of approximately 23.5 degrees means that the Sun illuminates the various parts of the planet differently during the year, giving rise to the seasons.

But the summer solstice is not just an astronomical fact: it is also a moment rich in cultural and symbolic meanings. Since ancient times, many civilizations have celebrated the solstice as a tribute to the Sun and life. From the ritual fires of the Celtic populations to megalithic monuments such as Stonehenge, the solstice has represented a point of connection between heaven and earth, between man and nature.

This particular date therefore marks the beginning of astronomical summer, a period of light, energy and growth. It is an invitation to celebrate nature in its maximum splendor and enjoy the brightest days of the year.

Millions of stars and infinite galaxies full of fascination and mystery, dark matter and energies yet to be known.

While sending messages, with Star Bottle®, we will be able to approach the stars, launching our message, towards the heart of our galaxy: Milky Way.

In fact, our planet and our solar system belong to the Milky Way,a Barred Spiral Galaxythat boasts an immense size for us. The estimated age of the Milky Way is 13.7 billion years.

The name Milky Way, derived from the Greek word for the faint whitish 'milky' looking band of light that crosses diagonally across the yellow sphere formed by the stars and nebulae in the galactic disc itself.

Relativamente all’equatore celeste, la Via Lattea passa nel suo estremo nord nella Costellazione di Cassiopea e nell’esterno sud in quella della Croce del Sud.

The Milky Way consists of more than a hundred billion stars that in turn contain solar systems like ours where life may have developed in a similar way to Earth.

Many film sagas and science fiction novels have centred on our galaxy, today it is you who write your own unique, exclusive, universal message!
