HOW THE MESSAGE TRANSMISSION WORKS
in Deep Space
Sending a message into deep space with Star Bottle is simple and fast. Choose the content you want to transmit into space, select the destination, the date, and you’re all set. We’ll take care of converting your message into binary code and transmitting it into deep space.
In 2024, the available dates chosen are iconic and significant.

Destination Polaris
The Night of the Stars, celebrated on 10 August, is one of the most magical evenings of the year, dedicated to observing the Perseid shooting stars. This astronomical phenomenon, commonly known as the Tears of Saint Lawrence, offers an evocative spectacle in the summer sky, with dozens of meteors crossing the atmosphere and lighting it up for a few moments. According to popular tradition, making a wish when you see a shooting star brings good luck. Many enthusiasts gather in places far from light pollution to enjoy the best view, with events, guided observations and outdoor evenings. It is the perfect time to rediscover the charm of the sky and be enchanted by the mystery of the universe!
Polaris, the North Star, is the silent guide of the night sky. For centuries it has guided travelers, explorers, and dreamers, pointing precisely to the celestial North. Motionless to the human eye, it is in fact a system of dancing stars bound by an invisible force. A symbol of constancy and direction, it represents the light that remains still even when everything else moves.
Located about 433 light-years from Earth, Polaris is actually a triple star system composed of a yellow supergiant, Polaris A, and two smaller companions, Polaris B and Polaris Ab. Its brightness changes rhythmically: Polaris A is a Cepheid variable star, whose pulsation helps astronomers measure distances in the universe. It is almost perfectly aligned with Earth’s rotational axis, which is why it precisely marks the celestial north pole. Over time, its role will change: due to the slow precession of Earth’s axis, in about 13,000 years another star will take its place in the northern sky.

Milky Way
Millions of stars and infinite galaxies full of fascination and mystery, of dark matter and energies yet to be known.
When sending messages, with Star Bottle®, we can bring the stars closer, launching our message, towards the heart of our galaxy: the Milky Way.
In fact, our planet and solar system belong to the Milky Way, a galaxy of type “Barred Spiral Galaxy”which boasts an immense size for us. The estimated age of the Milky Way is 13.7 billion years.
The name Milky Way derives from the Greek term indicating the faint whitish band of light in appearance“milky” which crosses diagonally through the yellow sphere, formed by the stars and nebulae located in the galactic disc itself.
Relative to the celestial equator, the Milky Way passes through its northernmost point in the Cassiopeia constellation and in the southern exterior in that of the Southern Cross.
The Milky Way consists of more than a hundred billion stars which in turn contain solar systems like ours where life may have developed in a similar way to Earth.
Many film sagas and science fiction novels have centred on our galaxy, today it is you who write your own unique, exclusive, universal message!
Vega
It is the second brightest star visible from the northern hemisphere and shines like a diamond in the summer sky. It is located 26 light years from Earth, which means that messages sent to it can reach their destination while the person who sent them is still alive. It is a young star, larger than the Sun, which has an infrared excess, a sign of the presence of a lot of dust and a possible planetary system in formation. A planet may already have formed around it. It has the advantage of being easily recognisable in the summer sky (it is part of the so-called “summer triangle” together with Deneb and Altair) and, in the Eastern myth of Tanabata, it represents the princess, daughter of the Emperor of the Sky, who weaves the colours of sunrises and sunsets. She falls in love with a young shepherd, represented by the nearby star Altair, but their love is opposed by her parents, particularly her mother, who sticks a comb into the sky, digging a furrow (the Milky Way) between the two stars, which soon becomes an impassable torrent. The two lovers can only meet on the seventh night of the seventh month, when the boat-shaped moon creates a bridge between the two stars, allowing them to cross the celestial river. Tanabata is an Eastern festival during which coloured strips of paper (tanzaku) with people's wishes written on them are hung from the branches of a bamboo tree, because it is the night when the wish of the two stars in love to be reunited comes true. With a view to consolidating the Star Bottle project, 7 July (the date on which Tanabata is celebrated in the West, although Eastern calendars are lunar and not solar, so the coincidence is not automatic) could become a very interesting date for users in China and Japan, the two countries where the festival is most heartfelt and celebrated.
Titan
Saturn's largest moon is the second largest satellite in the Solar System and is larger than the planet Mercury. Among the moons in the Solar System, only Ganymede (Jupiter's main moon) is larger.
Titan has a very dense atmosphere, one and a half times that of our planet, composed mainly of nitrogen like that of the early Earth. The most interesting feature is the abundance of methane which, at the average temperature on the satellite (-180 °C), occurs in three states: solid, liquid and gaseous. This means that there are methane rocks on Titan (!) and, above all, that methane liquefies, i.e. there are lakes and rivers on the surface in which liquid methane flows and then evaporates, causing methane rain. There is therefore a “methane cycle” just as there is a water cycle on Earth.
Beneath its surface, there may be an ocean of liquid water, making it a very interesting body in terms of the possible presence of microorganisms and the existence of simple life forms.
