10 AUGUST 2024
The Night of the Stars

DESTINATION - Milky Way

On 10 August we celebrate the Night of Stars, famous for the phenomenon of the Perseids, one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year. The Perseids are fragments left behind by the Swift-Tuttle comet that, upon entering the Earth's atmosphere, create luminous trails visible in the night sky. This phenomenon, also known as “falling stars“, peaks around 10 to 12 August..

Millions of stars and infinite galaxies full of fascination and mystery, of dark matter and energies yet to be known.

When sending messages, with Star Bottle®, we can bring the stars closer, launching our message, towards the heart of our galaxy: the Milky Way.

In fact, our planet and solar system belong to the Milky Way, a galaxy of type “Barred Spiral Galaxy”which boasts an immense size for us. The estimated age of the Milky Way is 13.7 billion years.

The name Milky Way, derived from the Greek word for the weak whitish band of light with a “milky” appearance that crosses diagonally across the yellow sphere formed by the stars and nebulae located in the galactic disc itself..

Relative to the celestial equator, the Milky Way passes in its northern extremity in the Cassiopean Constellation and in its southern exterior in that of the Southern Cross..

The Milky Way consists of more than hundred billion stars which in turn contain solar systems like ours where life may have developed in a similar way to Earth.

Many film sagas and science fiction novels have centred on our galaxy, today it is you who write your own unique, exclusive, universal message!

21 DECEMBER 2024
Winter Solstice

The winter solstice, which occurs around 21 December in the northern hemisphere, is the shortest day of the year and marks the start of astronomical winter. During this event, the Earth's axis is tilted so that the North Pole is farther from the Sun, resulting in less daylight duration. At the winter solstice, the Sun reaches its maximum angular distance below the celestial equator. This phenomenon is celebrated by many cultures with festivals and rituals that symbolise the rebirth of the Sun and the progressive lengthening of the days.

DESTINATIONS

Milky Way - Sagittarius A*

The Milky Way is our Galaxy, i.e. the “city of stars” of which our Sun with its planets is a part. At the centre of the Milky Way lies Sagittarius A*, a gigantic supermassive black hole with a mass about 4 million times that of the Sun. The first image of the black hole was released by the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration in May 2022.

Europa and Jupiter

Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar System, its mass being 2.8 times that of all the other planets combined. Of its four largest moons, Europa is the most interesting because it is covered by an icy crust under which an ocean of liquid water is most likely hidden.

Sirius

It is the brightest star in the sky, very visible on winter nights from virtually all inhabited regions of the Earth. At 8.6 light years from us, it is a white star, 25 times brighter than our Sun. For the Ancient Egyptians, its reappearance in the sky after several months of invisibility, due to its proximity in perspective to the Sun, marked the Egyptian New Year and heralded the season of the overflowing of the Nile, which was crucial for the fertility of the land.
