Rocheux, gazeux, gonfl\u00e9s, sombres, lumineux, chauds...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour les d\u00e9couvrir, les astronomes utilisent diff\u00e9rentes techniques. La plus courante est la m\u00e9thode du transit. Lorsqu'une plan\u00e8te passe devant son \u00e9toile, elle bloque une petite partie de sa lumi\u00e8re, cr\u00e9ant une diminution mesurable de l'\u00e9clat de l'\u00e9toile. Si le plan orbital de la plan\u00e8te est align\u00e9 avec le n\u00f4tre, ce transit permet de d\u00e9tecter sa pr\u00e9sence et de d\u00e9terminer sa taille et son orbite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une autre technique est la m\u00e9thode des vitesses radiales. Une plan\u00e8te en orbite autour d'une \u00e9toile provoque un l\u00e9ger mouvement de l'\u00e9toile elle-m\u00eame : ce mouvement cr\u00e9e un d\u00e9calage dans la lumi\u00e8re de l'\u00e9toile, que l'on peut d\u00e9tecter \u00e0 l'aide de spectrographes. Cette m\u00e9thode permet de mesurer la masse de la plan\u00e8te.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il y a ensuite l'astrom\u00e9trie, qui mesure les petites variations de la position des \u00e9toiles caus\u00e9es par la gravit\u00e9 des plan\u00e8tes en orbite.
