{"id":8388,"date":"2024-08-30T11:30:50","date_gmt":"2024-08-30T09:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/starbottle.space\/?p=8388"},"modified":"2024-08-30T11:30:52","modified_gmt":"2024-08-30T09:30:52","slug":"caccia-al-misterioso-speedy-gonzales-della-via-lattea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starbottle.space\/en\/the-hunt-for-the-mysterious-speedy-gonzales-of-the-milky-way\/","title":{"rendered":"Hunt for the mysterious Speedy Gonzales of the Milky Way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A mysterious cosmic object capable of moving at incredible speeds through the Milky Way, at an impressive rate of over one million kilometres per hour, has been detected by citizen scientists participating in NASA's \u2018Backyard Worlds: Planet 9\u2019 project, which aims to search for planets and brown dwarfs beyond Neptune's orbit.<br>The <a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.3847\/2041-8213\/ad6607\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discovery<\/a>, despite being written by enthusiastic amateurs, is published in the prestigious Astrophysical Journal Letters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mysterious object has a mass similar to that of a small star and was caught in \u201cspeed camera\u201d style by NASA's Wise telescope, which mapped the sky in infrared from 2009 to 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what is this galactic Speedy Gonzales?
